More than 300 people from around twenty countries will meet in Cordoba to discuss drowning prevention at CIPREA 2024

The city will once again host the most important European and Latin American conference on drowning prevention, the second in the world

More than 300 people from around twenty countries from the five continents will meet from tomorrow, Friday, at the Palacio de Congresos de Córdoba for the fourth edition of the International Congress on Drowning Prevention #CIPREA2024.

Cordoba repeats as the venue for the most important European and Latin American conference and the second most important in the world on drowning prevention, after the 2021 edition, which was the first congress event to be held in the city after the peak of the pandemic.

Five keynotes and two round tables, as well as two workshops, make up the Congress program, which will also include the presentation of the Spanish Olympic Committee’s Olympic Laurel to three lifesavers who have been world champions on at least three occasions, and the International Lifesaving Federation’s Citation of Merit to another eight people whose work in the prevention of drowning in the aquatic environment stands out.

The #CIPREA2024, which has the support of the Cordoba City Council and the Cordoba Provincial Council, will have an exhibition area where institutions and companies related to the activity of the event will showcase their activities or new products.

In this space there will be exhibitors from the audiovisual technology company Interactvty, Seabob Rescue, the Salvasur Sports Club, the Provincial Consortium for Fire Prevention and Extinction, the Civil Guard Maritime Service, IES Galileo Galilei and the shop of the Royal Spanish Rescue and Lifesaving Federation, organiser of #CIPREA2024. This stand is managed by the sports clothing company Squali, which also manages the federation’s online shop.

The Congress will host the presentation of the World Conference on Drowning Prevention (WCDP 2025) by Ingy El Shazly, member of the Board of Directors of the International Rescue Federation-Africa Area and Director General of WCDP 2025; and the the handing over of a demonstration kit for BLSD training (a simulator for training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation) by the president of the Italian association Pandora, Marisol Flores, to the director of IES Galileo Galilei, Juan Fernando Jiménez Bolivar.

This centre will actively participate in the event with the presence of around 150 students from the Emergency and Civil Protection and Emergency and Civil Protection Coordination courses, together with a dozen teachers.

Volunteers from the PRODE Foundation and the Salvasur Sports Club will once again form part of the Congress organising staff, as was the case in the 2021 edition.

The #CIPREA2024 is articulated around ten thematic areas: prevention, statistics, education and water safety, rescue, health, natural disasters, migrants and refugees, innovations, sport and labour, which is incorporated as a novelty in this edition.
